I don't know if this had an pro tools fuckery to make this sound tight...But I have to say that Godsmack is a really awesome band if they can pull this shit off live. I've always thought that they were like Alice in Chains with some Pantera thrown and just a 3rd rate band. But this is really, really cool.

I guess that the singer is a drummer as well and he brought out his own drumset and jammed with the bands drummer Shannon Larkin ( who drums on all the Amen albums) and it was really cool. I normally hate shit like this, but I was impressed to say the least.

Umm, it is real. I confirmed it with this video.

Holy shit!

I get it now!!!! Rivers Cuomo was the worlds first hipster...in 1994. You know before it became like this huge plugue of stupidity, it was actually someones personal style. The ironic thing? And you knew there would be some irony here... Weezer is too big for the hipsters to be into, despite the fact that they had that whole " geek chic" thing going 15 years ago.

So here is the Sweater song.

And the first time I heard say it ain't so... was on Deftones back to school tour.

It went something like this:

I miss being able to easily see any band on tour....

Or at least that is what it sounds like, I'm guessing that the dudes in Behemoth are big blizzard fans. Actually this is a pretty cool video, and even the song is pretty listenable. Which surprises me because I'm not a huge Behemoth fan or Death Metal fan in general. I'll have to give this song another listen later. But this video has gothic imagery, naked women and canabalism. All the components of a great metal video. Although I really hate the over dramatic shots of the band...Spinal Tap anyone?

Really they should hand out This is Spinal Tap to kids buying their first guitar...

And way here you go, Blood , Fire and Boobs! ( NSFW)

Sid Haig for president in 2012!

I think this dude speaks a lot of truth. I like a lot of what he has to say...and actually he says more than even our president. You might think he is just Captain Spaulding from Devil's Rejects. But he has a great head on his shoulders.

Satan is real....

My new theme song...

When I first heard this song honestly I just liked it because it was really tight. I mean that first chug is so fucking tight*. It sounds like it was sampled. Then the dissonance melody under it is really cool too. Honestly it reminds me of something that Fear Factory would do except they would do it with a keyboard. This song is just filled with awesome riffs especially the on that kicks in at 1:58. But then again I have a weakness for notes that create that grating sound.

But what really gets me are the lyrics...sadly the vocals are sort of low in the mix so I'll print them here: Read more... )

I didn't know that these guys were on tour.

I really like My Bloody Valentine. I know that they influenced a lot of bands that I like like Deftones and Smashing Pumpkins but their stuff is too strange for most people to like. In fact I think other than [info]ninjaguydan who is a fan maybe three of you will understand/like this. But its amazing stuff.

Radio formats...

So I'm reading So You Want To Be  A Rock & Roll Star by Jacob Slichter. And I read this paragraph about radio formats:

AAA or "triple A" ( adult album alternative) stations are aimed at listeners in their late twenties and thirties who want to hear new music of a less aggressive variety. In The mid nineties this meant Counting Crows, R.E.M Sarah Mclachlan, Chris Issak,Phish,Indigo Girls and John Hiatt. play Some of the less commercial AAA stations play so called album tracks songs that have not be released as singles. As for the listeners, picture the customers at the Starbucks Cafe situated inside the Barnes & Nobles.
Rock ( or active rock) stations play a mix of old and new music by bands like Van Halen, AC/DC and Def Leppard. Think Monster Truck show.

Dude I so do not want to listen to "less aggressive music because I'm 34. Not that I constantly listen to music that could peel paint off walls but I still do like to have that option every once in awhile. Why do I have to limit myself because I'm older? I think that you either like aggressive stuff or you don't. I mean I remember kids at my highschool going to see Billy Joel. WTF? I'd never pay good money to see Billy Joel in concert. Not that he is a bad person or that he sucks but his music doesn't give you that rush that something like this gives you :

At times I've thought that why should a high school kid listen to lame old people music like that. But now I realize that some people just like mild shit. And that is cool. I'm just not gonna listen to mild stuff now because I'm older. Sure deep inisde I still feel that its sad that kids listen to lame stuff like that, but its sad that kids listen to Britney Spears. When I say kids I really mean teenagers. Kids are excused from buying prefab music. Once you hit 14 you should know better.

Wow I actually really like this song...

This is Wickerman off of Iron Maiden's Brave New World album. Of course when B.N.W came out I brought it, but I was disappointed by thge song writing. So I listened to it once or twice and then popped Somewhere in Time and promptly forgot about it. But Sarah got me Visions of the Beast., because she couldn't find Live After Death. Which is the best metal live video ever. Guns' N' Roses live at the Ritz is the best rock one( sadly you can't buy it. Anyway I digress, so I listened to the songs on the DVD cause most of Maiden's videos are pretty sad. And I heard Wickerman and I thought this song actually is really good. So here you are.

Back in the day...

So back in 97' I attended the first Ozzfest tour. Basically I wanted to see Pantera( used to be a big fan of) and Black Sabbath. But since it was a festival( although what the fuck is festive about standing on hard plastic all day I don't know ) you had a bunch of bands. Ironically since we arrived at three thirty I missed what was without a doubt the most influential and maybe innovative band on that tour: Fear Factory. Everytime you hear a crappy metal band go from cookie monster vocals to melodic singing remember that Fear Factory was there first.

I also missed Neurosis who along with Fear Factory was very innovative if underrated band. But people don't tend to hate on Neurosis as much as they do on Fear Factory, but then again they didn't have B Real rapping on one of their songs either....

And I missed Machine Head on the second stage. So basically I missed what would become two of my favorite bands in the next few months. Anyway I found a mix tape( CD ) that I made a few years ago which had tracks by Fear Factory from their first album Soul of a New Machine and I was blown away with what they had done in 92' especially because it had aged really well, sure it sounds like a band just finding its way but if you told someone that it had come out last year they might believe you. Other than the industrial clanking on some of the tracks it sounds pretty current.

Here is a track called Big God/Raped Souls which while having a Napalm Death/ Godflesh vibe was very cutting edge. It took 12 years for the rest of the metal world to mess up that sound. Heavy Metal is pretty much like comic books in that most bands just do whatever is popular at the moment.

Here is one more.

Its way too late.

I just finished transfering Palinstein to my 11X17 boards. This took 3 solid hours, but its done. I'm gonna actually redraw a lot of it because I felt like the likenesses were off in spots. I think that with Karl Rove I'm gonna have to try my best because its hard to find good pictures of him. But I found more pic's of McCain so I'll see what I can do about making him look better.

God it was pitch black when I got off the bus today at 5:20. What the hell. Now I really feel like I live in the middle of nowhere. Even though I really don't, but with out any street lights it does feel a bit isolated. I actually think that I would like living out in the middle of nowhere.  But on the other hand I did like having everything I wanted within a 5 min walk. I'm weird I guess.

I just saw Machine Head cover QOTSA's Feel Good Hit Of the Summer and actually I think that they play it better. Or tighter at least. I bet Machine Head doesn't need a bunch of takes in the studio.

Well that's about it for now.

PS Sadly I won't be able to make it to the B.S of comics tomorrow because I'm going to a birthday party at 3pm.

Umm, this is a funny version of Am I Evil ? That Diamond Head cover that Metallica made their own...umm actually they made most of that first Diamond Head album their own..LOL. Actually this really proves that a players sound is in his hands, see they switch instruments and sound totally different. Anyway here you go..

This was one of the first extreme metal songs that I liked. Its a bit odd because its rather catchy... But yet extreme. I wish more extreme metal vocalist paid attention to Tom Araya and actually tried to be understood. I mean who knows maybe they would sell more records if people could actually understand what they are saying. This is War Ensemble from Slayer's Seasons In The Abyss album. Oh the memories, I feel like I'm 15 again.

Enjoy : )

This is Everything's Ruined. I always think about my friend telling me that he got called into the principal's office for wearing his Angel Dust tee shirt.

Anyway enjoy.

BTW I really love that song and wanna learn it. Melodic and simple. Honestly I don't know how this record tanked.... I guess they needed another flapping fish in their video...

This is a live video for Heart's Alive off their Leviathan album. It's a huge epic song like Iron Maiden's Rime of The Ancient Mariner

I love Mastodon and I have to see them live.

And here is the video for The Wolf is Loose This is the first song of Blood Mountain. Which was Decibel's album of the year.

Classic video

This is the first Deftones song that I ever heard. I loved it so much that I bought the CD a few days later. This is some classic shit, it sounded way different than the other crap going on at the time. Linkin Park wishes they were the Deftones. The Deftones wish they had Linkin Park's bank account...

The best band out of Norway

This is Emperor. I can't tell you how much they have done to really push Metal in new interesting directions. The really interesting part is that they wrote some of this stuff as teenagers.... I think I can safely say that they are the best black metal band ever and the best band ever to come out of Norway. Enjoy
